Immerse yourself in the music and culture. Watch fun demonstrations (like the famous sheepdogs) and be inspired by powerful athletes competing on the Heavy Athletics field. CATHEDRAL PARK JAZZ FESTIVAL
"Billed as the longest-running jazz-and-blues festival west of the Mississippi, this annual summer favorite is a prime showcase of Portland’s homegrown talent, natural beauty and neighborly charm. Picnicking families relax on a grassy slope nestled by the foot of the majestic St. Johns Bridge to enjoy the likes of trumpeter Farnell Newton (sideman to the likes of Jill Scott and Bootsy Collins), organist “King Louis” Pain, Pink Martini guitarist Dan Faehnle and former Motown drummer Mel Brown." – Oregon Arts Watch
The Jazz Society’s Cathedral Park Jazz Festival is a free concert open to the public and held over three days in mid-July at Cathedral Park at the base of the St. Johns Bridge in the Cathedral Park neighborhood of Portland. Nearing four decades of history, the festival is the longest-running jazz and blues festival west of the Mississippi River.

CHAMBER MUSIC NORTHWEST SUMMER FESTIVAL
Chamber Music Northwest (CMNW) manages an unusual combination: classical music played by musicians of the highest caliber in an informal, intimate setting. Since 1971, chamber musicians have flocked to Southeast Portland’s Reed College to play the great classic repertoire with their friends. Music fans share picnics and wine on the campus lawn before heading indoors to hear the sublime music.
Returning annually, the festival is one of Portland’s rites of summer. The festival returns June 24 – July 29, and the theme for 2023 is Poetry in Music, which encompasses spoken elements in several concerts such as poetry from around the world, a poetic monodrama featuring poetry by Portland native Katie Ford, live spoken narration, and a partnership with Literary Arts. View their festival concert guide for a full lineup of events

REMBRANDT AND THE JEWS
The relationship Rembrandt had with the Jews of Amsterdam reveals a remarkable story. Most Amsterdam Jews were Sephardic – refugees from the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal. For generations, these Jews had been forced to deny their religious legacy, but in Amsterdam, they were free to reclaim traditions and return to their Judaism. Rembrandt lived in Amsterdam’s prosperous Jewish neighborhood. In his interpretation of Protestant Old Testament narratives, he consulted Jewish theologians for a nuanced perspective of these familiar subjects. He also painted and etched portraits of prominent Jews. The exhibition will include 22 etchings by Rembrandt and one drawing by Pieter Lastman. The exhibition has been organized by the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art and will be accompanied by Memories of Amsterdam and paintings by Henk Pander
