YISHAI JUSIDMAN, PRUSSIAN BLUE
Yishai Jusidman’s Prussian Blue is a series of paintings rendered almost exclusively in one of the earliest artificially developed pigments used by European painters—Prussian Blue. The chemical compound that makes up this pigment happens to be related to the Prussic acid in Zyklon B, the poisonous product deployed at some of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. By a strange turn, traces of the pigment remain to this day in the walls of the gas chambers. Such stains are quiet, disturbing, and palpable reminders, which Jusidman’s paintings re-engage with a profound effect.

PORTLAND BOOK FESTIVAL
When 8,500 people descended on the Portland Art Museum for the revived Portland Book Festival, (formerly “Wordstock”) in 2015, the message to its new organizer, Literary Arts, was clear: Portlanders love to get their read on, and this festival — missing in action for more than two years — had not been forgotten.
Founded in 2005 by local writer Larry Colton and renamed in 2018, the annual festival always featured an impressive lineup of local and national authors and a book fair. But its original incarnation, held at the expansive Oregon Convention Center through–2013, wasn’t quite the “metaphorical public square” that Literary Arts Executive Director Andrew Proctor, the festival’s new leader, had in mind.
Enter the Portland Art Museum. As the festival’s rebooted primary venue, the museum provides a backdrop for art, history and culture to merge with conversation, books and ideas. (Other venues include the nearby
LAS ADELITAS: A DAY OF THE DEAD PRODUCTION
The dead are commemorated every fall in Portland’s longest-running Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. This year, Milagro observes their 28th Día de Muertos with an original production, Las Adelitas. Las Adelitas will be infused with folkloric dance and music, accompanied by theatrical elements that celebrate the ancestors by building altars and sharing cultural traditions. Workshops will share altar-building crafts such as sugar skulls and paper flowers for decorating home altars.
VEGANIZER: WORLD VEGAN MONTH
This November, celebrate World Vegan Month with Veganizer PDX and 20+ Portland restaurants and carts. Participating locations will serve food/drink specials and donate a portion of sales from their special to a nonprofit of their choice.

MONTAVILLA FARMERS MARKET
Neighborhood farmers market featuring local farms, distilleries, coffee, bakeries, flowers, hot food vendors and more. This dedicated group opened the market in just 10 short months with a small amount of grant funds and a generous outpouring of donations from local businesses, friends and neighbors. The tireless energy of these un-paid visionaries and countless other volunteers allowed MFM to open its first market on Sunday, July 22, 2007, with 17 vendors and over 2000 visitors. Montavilla Farmers Market is a thriving, diverse marketplace where all are welcome.
